The "Triple Merit Student" is an honorary title given by Chinese schools to outstanding students who are selected. "Triple Excellence" becomes a goal and honor that students strive for.
"Triple Merit Student" constructs a fictional defense and award ceremony, unveiling and critiquing the phenomenon of campus violence. The work begins with the perpetrator publicly narrating their acts of violence at the location where they were committed. A "machine jury" then analyzes the violence videos, generating personalized award reasons and "Triple Merit" certificates in a detached technical language, and bestowing honors during an absurd award ceremony.
Through a roadshow-style experience and the absurdity of mechanized judging, the piece exposes the hidden issues of campus violence, while permanently storing the traces of the perpetrator on the internet, mocking society's tacit while permanently storing the traces of the perpetrator on the internet, mocking society's tacit acceptance of violence, and attempting to deter potential perpetrators with this cautionary fictional form.
